Privacy Policy
Effective date: 25 October 2026
This policy explains what information the Storiwick app and the storiwick.com website handle, and why. Storiwick is published by Vykka LLC, Bellevue, Washington, USA ("Vykka", "we", "us"). If you have a question about this policy or your information, email hello@storiwick.com.
The short version
- Storiwick has no sign-up and no account.
- The app does not collect personal data. Your progress, your words and your settings stay on your phone.
- The app has no ads, no tracking, and no third-party analytics or crash-reporting tools.
- We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
- If you email us, we use your email to reply to you.
What stays on your phone
The app keeps the following on your device only:
- which stories you have read, and how each one went (the answers to the questions after a story, and your rating if you gave one)
- the level the app has set for you, and any change you make to it
- the words you have looked up and how well you know them
- your settings
We never receive this information. It is not sent to us or to anyone else.
Your phone's backup. Your phone's own backup (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google's Android backup on Android) includes this information if you have backup turned on, so a phone restored from a backup keeps your progress. That backup is run by Apple or Google under their own privacy policies and your own settings; we cannot see or access it. Stories you have downloaded are not included in the backup and can be downloaded again.
Deleting it. Settings → Reset all progress clears the stories you have read, your words and your settings from your phone. It cannot be undone. Deleting the app also deletes this information from your phone, though it may remain in your phone's backup until that backup is replaced or deleted.
When the app uses the internet
The stories that come with the app work without an internet connection. The app connects to the internet only in these cases:
- Downloading new stories. New stories are delivered as files from a static web host. The request contains only the name of the file being downloaded. It carries no account, device identifier, advertising identifier or progress.
- Opening a link in Settings. When you tap Privacy policy, Terms or Contact support, the app first checks that the page can be reached and then opens it in your phone's browser.
All of these connections use encrypted HTTPS.
As with any website, the hosting provider that serves these files and pages receives the technical information every internet request carries, such as your IP address, the time of the request, and your device's browser or system type. The provider may keep this in short-lived operational and security logs. We do not use these logs to identify, track or profile you, we have turned off visitor analytics on our hosting, and we do not export or keep the logs ourselves.
This website
storiwick.com is hosted by Cloudflare. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and shows no ads. Cloudflare processes the request information described above to deliver the site and protect it from attacks.
When you email us
If you write to hello@storiwick.com, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you put in your message. We use this only to answer you and to fix problems you report. We do not add you to a mailing list. Our email is stored with our email provider. We delete support emails when they are no longer needed, and at the latest 24 months after our last message to each other, unless we need to keep one longer to deal with a legal claim.
Please don't send us sensitive information you don't need to share.
The app stores
You download Storiwick from Google Play or the Apple App Store. Google and Apple handle your store account, your download and, if you agree to share them, crash and usage reports from your phone, under their own privacy policies. They give us only summary statistics, such as install counts, ratings and crash rates, which do not identify you.
How the stories are made
The stories and their audio are made with AI tools and checked before they're added to the app. They are made in advance, the same for every learner, and never from anything you do in the app. Nothing you do in the app is sent to an AI service.
Our legal bases (UK, EEA and Switzerland)
Where data protection laws such as the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR apply, Vykka LLC is the controller of the limited personal data described above, and we rely on:
- legitimate interests, to deliver the website and story downloads and keep them secure (the hosting logs), and to answer and act on your emails;
- legal obligation, where we must keep or disclose information by law.
Our hosting and email providers process data for us on our instructions. We are based in the United States, so information you send us, such as an email, is processed in the United States and in other countries where our providers operate. Where the law requires it, we rely on our providers' standard data-transfer safeguards.
Your rights
Because we hold almost nothing about you, there is usually little to give back. You can still ask us, by email to hello@storiwick.com:
- to tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- to correct it;
- to delete it;
- to restrict or object to how we use it.
Your progress, words and settings are on your phone, under your control; we cannot see, copy or delete them for you. Use Reset all progress, or delete the app.
We answer requests within one month. We may need to confirm the request comes from you, for example by replying to the address that wrote to us. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
If you are in the UK, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. If you are in the EEA or Switzerland, you can complain to your local data protection authority. We would like the chance to sort out your concern first, so please write to us.
US state privacy rights
Residents of some US states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Washington and others, have rights over their personal information. We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, use it for targeted advertising or profiling, or collect sensitive personal information, and we do not use personal information beyond what this policy describes. You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it by emailing hello@storiwick.com, and you can use an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf. We will answer within 45 days; if we need more time, we will tell you why within those 45 days and will take no more than 45 days more. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer or by emailing hello@storiwick.com with "Appeal" in the subject line. We will answer an appeal within 45 days and explain our decision; if you disagree with it, you can contact your state attorney general. Because the app does not track you, it does not respond differently to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signals; there is no tracking to turn off.
Children
Storiwick is meant for people aged 13 and over. It is not designed for or directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us at hello@storiwick.com and we will delete it.
Security
The app talks to the internet only over HTTPS, and it checks every downloaded story file before using it. Your progress stays in the app's own storage on your phone, and Reset all progress erases it rather than just hiding it. Your phone's lock screen and backup settings protect that storage too.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling information in a new way, for example if we add accounts or a paid subscription, we will update this policy before that change reaches you, change the effective date above, and, for a significant change, tell you in the app or in the store listing. The current version is always at storiwick.com/privacy.
